For todays fixture we welcomed Interski Ladies back to Long Eaton School. The teams were locked on 15 points each prior to the game, both with 5 wins from 7 games.
Having beaten Woodlands in a pre-season friendly, we were well aware that this was going to be a very tough game.
Woodlands started the game well and took the game to Interski from the start and were rewarded after only 6 minutes when Nicci ran on to Shannon's through ball to fire an unstoppable shot over the keeper and into the roof of the net. Woodlands played some of their best Football of the season in the first half with both Jess & Amy performing superbly in the middle of midfield.
Woodlands nearly extended their lead on 21 minutes when after a superb corner from Jess, Shannon's goalbound effort was well held under the bar by the Interski keeper. However another corner from Jess produced the 2nd goal. The cross wasn't dealt with by the Interski defence and Nia fired high into the roof of the net from 6 yards out.
Woodlands went 3-0 up after 36 minutes when Claire slid the ball back to Jess, her shot from fully 30 yards out left the keeper with no chance. Shannon again went close after 39 minutes this time her shot came out off the outside of the post.
Woodlands defence were immaculate throughout, Betty & the two Chloe's always looked in control and kept a forwardline that had scored 16 goals only a week before at bay. Frankie sitting in front of the defence was again immaculate and Sophie in goal was quick off her line & her handling was first class.
Woodlands continued to play some beautiful Football & Interski always looked dangerous on the break. Interski scored a consolation goal after 78 minutes a super strike from outside the box just beating Sophie , who did well to get both hands to the ball.
Woodlands nearly scored a 4th near the end, when after some brilliant skill by Shannon on the right her low cross was met on the full by Claire her half volley flying just the wrong side of the post.
A brilliant advert for Ladies Football.
Player of the match: Very difficult, Chloe T was outstanding at the back & i've never seen Amy play better. I'd give them both a share of it. But it really could have been anybody.
